ITS OUT!!!! WOOT!! Going to get ready and go see it. Any other fans? My main character for the past few months has been The Panserbjorne....kudos to whoever too Iorek Byranison.
I will say from the previews I'm already disappointed with the lack of the use of the word Alethiometer and the armor of the Panserbjorne, it was supposed to be sky metal not leather Though maybe it was just Iorek that had leather looking armor guess I'll see.

@Winterclaw
Oh man don't judge until you've read the books. Well they are for a younger crowd so if you missed them growing up I guess I can understand.
@Onarik
No I didn't can you post the link? Or I'll google it later.
Clarification turns out the armor is metal it just looked weird in the low resolution preview I downloaded. Also they did use the term Alethiometer, just not in the previews for some reason. But like any other movie based on books, the book was a million times better. Though I will say I was surprised at how much they did cover, though not always accurately. Anyways don't want to spoil it for anyone by giving specifics. Go watch it for yourselves :P

I was given a brief synopsis of the books and I'm not interested in such tasteless things.

@winterclaw: The books are far from tasteless, you should really read the books before you pass comments such as this.

Hmmm, I'm willing to bet who ever told you the synopsis made the mistake of saying the books are about destroying "God" and I put that in quotations because many people make the mistake of thinking that.
In short without ruining it for anyone (and I admit the movie doesn't do a great job of making this clear) the "Authority" in the books isn't God. He's an angel, the first to come into existence, who used that fact to trick all the angels that came after into believing he was God. Some bought his story, some didn't. In short its about the ones who knew he wasn't God trying to keep him from taking control of everything (his goal being erasing free will). The genius of the story is that its told from the viewpoint of a child, and how she gets caught up in the war between the two.
I know Phillip Pullman says he is an atheist and he has said that they are about killing "God" but in the books he does explain who the "Authority" really is, an angel gone awry.
Besides that Phillip Pullman is by far one of the best storytellers I've ever seen. But to each their own. If that seems tasteless to you, then well your loss, or in your opinion not your loss. Lets leave it at that?

Feel free to tell a man that his opinions on political matters or football are a load of ****, but tell him that his religion is **** and every passer-by will pause to tear off your head for being discriminatory and for not allowing him his opinions. Never mind that they're not allowing you your opinion.
I think I'll go buy the book.
